The Desert Speaks
All through the desert sings portray
And in the wasted wilderness
A time when waters spread it o’re
A time when floods o’re it held sway
And of this land of desert stress
We know was once an ocean floor.

A time of some catastrophe
When earth’s foundations did upheave
Out there the tale is plainly read,
And you and I may freely see;
That seeing we might God believe,
And knowing that we give it heed.

For every fossil tells a tale
And like the Bible may be read
They speak of an almighty blast.
Or of a time which did prevail
When o’re the earth the waters spread
And earth foundations were upcast.

They speak of power never know
By any creature here below,
Of an Almighty hand at work.
And we may read within that stone
Of all the anguish God did know
And of the sin that once did lurk.

And in this stone is surely read
Of Gods abounding care and love.
And how he hated sin and all,
And how through Noah that he plead
And sought to take them up above
And win them from their awful fall.

He sought it so he tore this earth
And turned the world all up side down.
He did all this to save just man;
A speck of man that had no worth,
For them he would all creatures drown,
To make and keep this loving plan.
This is the price that sin has cost.
Love so astounding strong and deep
That heavens host look on and sigh
And wonder why God loves the lost
They turn their faces to cry and weep
And sing with joy for you and I.

Thus in this land of the mirage
We now may see beyond and hope
And in the future we may sing
And with those of our ménage
Shall like a bounding antelope
Enjoy the pleasures it may bring.
